SUMMER BEAUTY BLOG

Summer is here ... apparently.

As I look out of my window on this grey Wednesday I can't seem to grasp the fact that this is actually the case but never the less it's "summer" and I thought I would share my tips on how to look after your hair and skin. Wether you're jetting off on your summer holidays and spending summer at home, some of these tips may help keep your hair and skin in check. They may sound pretty basic but sometimes the most simple things can really go a long way.

STAY HYDRATED
I read somewhere that we should drink around 2litres of water a day but I never measure how much water I consume so I can't say whether I agree with this or not. One thing I will say is staying hydrated is key to healthy looking skin and hair. I make sure I always keep a travel water bottle with me where ever I go. This way I can drink water on the go and refill when I can.
I love this Travel bottle from the Powerful Water Company.

CREAM UP
It's pretty simple but wear suncream people! I am determined not to end up looking like a leather handbag. I spend a lot of time out in the elements so whether I am surfing or just out and about I always cover up. I also suffer with skin pigmentation problems so wearing suncream everyday has just become as routine as brushing my teeth.

When I am in the surf I love to use:
Surfers Skin Zinc & Surfers Skin Clear Lip Balm
SPF Cream SPF 30+

They are all hard wearing and kind to your skin; it doesn't give me a break out after using it.

When I am out of the surf and I want something that blends in with my skin tone I use:
Green People Agey Defy Tinted Moisterier SPF 15
Collistar Magica CC Stick UVA & UVB SPF 30

Both products can act as a foundation but don't feel heavy on my skin.

PROTECT YOUR HAIR
We protect our skin when we are in the sun but often we don't protect our hair. When I went to Bali in May I took 3 products with me which I feel saved my heavily bleached and sun kissed hair.

TIGI Bed Head Totally Beachin' Cleansing Jelly Shampoo & Mellow After Sun Conditioner

TIGI Bed Head Beach Bound Protection Spray For Coloured Hair

All three of these products smell amazing and leave your hair feeling soft and silky. I used the protection spray before and after surfing or going on the pool and it really did work. My hairdresser at Number 8 Hairdressing couldn't believe the condition of my hair when I got back. Well worth investing in these products if you spend a lot of time in the sun and surf.

SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIES
Summer time and smoothies go hand in hand and we all have a personal favourites. I love anything with berries and almond milk but sometimes it's good to boost up your smoothies a bit. Adding superfood powders is a great way to do just that.
As a MyProtein ambassador I get to try some amazing products and at the moment I am loving their Organic and Free From Ranges.

I love adding:
Organic Maca Powder is an extremely nutrient-dense product which provides 17.8% of your RDA of vitamin C and 30% of your RDA of copper in each 5g serving. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth while copper also plays a role in maintaining healthy connective tissue. Copper and Vitamin C contribute to the normal functioning of the nervous and immune system as well as to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Camu Camu Powder
Camu Camu Powder is a good source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

SCRUB
Investing in a good face scrub is pretty important especially when you use as much sun cream and zinc as me. Making sure you clear your pores of all the sun cream will keep your skin spot free! I recently purchased from Frank Body and I love it.

Have a great summer!!!

POST SURF STRETCHES

Stretching out after surfing is really important, especially if you don't get as much water time as you'd like. Your poor body goes from not surfing much, to paddling like mad, catching loads of waves and if you don't stretch out after this you'll end up suffering in the long run.
We are all guilty of not warming up properly,  I am usually so excited about getting in the surf it's the last thing I think of, so making sure I stretch out post surf is key to keeping my joints and muscles happy. I am not a personal trainer but I surf all the time and these simply the stretches that what work for me.
