I just love coconut! Whether it coconut scented candles or a coconut rum cocktail if it contains any trace of coconut I am in heaven and let's be honest after all the mulled, spiced, roasted food and beverages I have been indulging in over the festive season I am ready to get a little freshness back into my diet.

With my mind shifting to the beginning of a new year and my body crying out for a stoggy food detox I thought I would share my 4 favourite coconut based products which you can enjoy as part of a healthy diet.

1. Aluna Coconut Rum

I have been working with Aluna since April of this year and what a wonderful 8 months it has been. A refreshing coconut based rum, lightly blended with coconut water this rum is an amazing low calorie and very much grown up the alternative to Malibu. I treat Aluna like any spirit and experiment with mixers and infusions. I have in fact shared some of these recipes on my blog so be sure to check them out.

2. We Are Little Coconut Coffee

Two of my favourite ingredients blended together, coconut flavoured coffee ... I know sounds amazing right and the don't worry the taste does not disappoint. A great afternoon picks me up or lovely warm up after surfing.

3. Coconut Water

I have been drinking coconut water for years now and even though it may taste best fresh out of a coconut on a warm sunny beach somewhere in the tropics, it still tastes delicious out of a carton. One thing I tried recently is to freeze coconut water into ice cubes and add it to cocktails, fruit juice or smoothies.

4. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a BIG part of my life, it uses are endless and I think that's why I love it so much. I have jars all over the house, each for different uses. I cook with it, clean my teeth with it, moisture - I could go on but I won't bore you! Basically, coconut oil is a miracle product.

The Healing Power of Coconut

As you now know I am crazy for coconut and not only do I think it tastes wonderful there are also lots of reason why including coconut into your diet and lifestyle CAN make a big difference to your life.  So whilst I have my coconut hair mask on as I make coconut veggie curry whilst sipping on an Aluna Coconut Rum on coconut water ice I thought I would share some of the ways that coconut can help and heal your body.

Good for Oral Health

Coconut oil pulling is one of the best ways to remove bacteria and promote healthy teeth and gums. It’s been proven to be even more effective than flossing, and it’s one of the best ways to naturally whiten your teeth.

Moisturise Skin & Hair

Coconut oil is great for all skin types and if you use it, you’re sure to see results. Coconut oil is used in many natural beauty products, and for good reason: It's naturally antibacterial and antifungal, coconut oil for skin is an excellent moisturizer, it can penetrate hair better than other oils, and, well, it smells like cookies

Rich in Natural Fats

Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats not only increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL cholesterol) in your body but also help convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterols. By Increasing the HDL in the body, it helps promote heart health and lower the risk of heart disease.

Can aid weight loss

Coconut oil is the world's most weight loss friendly fat. It contains a unique combination of fatty acids with powerful effects on metabolism. Several studies show that just by adding coconut oil to your diet, you can lose fat, especially the "dangerous" fat in the abdominal cavity.

Block UV’s

Yep, you can use coconut oil as sunscreen. Many natural oils have UV blocking properties, and coconut oil are no different. One study concluded that coconut oil blocked as much as 20% of the sun’s UV radiation.

I recently put in my last MyProtein order for 2017 in and along with the usual favourites, I made sure I added some essential vitamins to my basket because the last thing I want to have over Christmas is cold or even worse flu. Which sadly as I write this post I am actually suffering from but fear not it could be worse and I am going to dose up and prevent it from getting any worse.

Before I share with the vitamins I have ordered I must add that these are what work for me. I am not a medical professional or dietician. I simply know I have a terrible immune system and last year seemed to get sick all the time. Taking matters into my own hands I have been supplementing my diet for nearly a year now and can honestly say I have seen a BIG difference. I have managed to go bypass the flu (so far anyway) and any cold I have had only seem to last a couple of days.

I have been religiously taking my supplements every day, sometimes at night or first thing in the morning. I take them with me when I travel to make sure I don't miss a day and like I have already said, I have seen a great improvement in my overall health.

Right, on to the supplements.

1. Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B Super Complex a blend of 8 B vitamins. Vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, whilst folate contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system. Did you know, Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and riboflavin contributes to the maintenance of normal red blood cells.
Zinc and Magnesium is a combination of two dietary minerals (zinc methionine and magnesium citrate) and vitamin B6. Using Zinc and Magnesium has a number of benefits to the body and its functionality. Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance and the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, the normal functioning of the nervous system and normal muscle function, normal protein synthesis and normal psychological function and a reduction in tiredness and fatigue.

The Zinc component contributes to the normal function of the immune system and macronutrient metabolism, a contribution to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in blood and normal vision and the maintenance of normal skin/hair/nails and normal bones. It also contributes to normal cognitive function and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

3. Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids & Rosehip

Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin that has a wide range of functions in the human body, with its primary function being an excellent antioxidant. We also add bioflavonoids as they enhance the action of Vitamin C and for this reason, they should be taken together.

4. Curcumin and Vitamin D

Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric, a member of the ginger family. Although widely used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines for centuries, it’s only recently that curcumin extract has gained popularity as a food supplement.

Vitamin D, on the other hand, is well-known for its range of health benefits and is primarily synthesised under the skin as a result of sun exposure. During winter months many people can become deficient in this essential vitamin, which is why it’s so important to supplement it.

5. Zinc

Zinc contributes to a number of roles in the body. Included in these are; a contribution to the normal function of the immune system and macronutrient metabolism, a contribution to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in blood and normal vision and the maintenance of normal skin/hair/nails and normal bones. It also contributes to normal cognitive function and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

6. Vegan Vitamin D3

Vitamin D helps the body absorb and use the minerals calcium and phosphorous*, essential for optimal bone health. And what’s more, it has better bio-availability than conventional vitamin D3 tablets.

7. Vitamin E

Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress

8. Active Women Hair Skin and Nails

It’s a breakthrough supplement that helps improve skin appearance, containing a blend of grape extract, melon extract, zinc and vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, while the essential mineral zinc contributes to maintaining normal hair and nails.

These are just a few supplements that I regularly take. If you wish to shop the products simply click on the title and use the code: CORINNE20 for discounts!

You may have noticed that I have duplicates of some supplements, this is because I share these with Ben and I also wanted to test out the Vegan Vitamin D3 and Zinc and Magnesium because I have never had these combinations before.

I will be the first to admit that I am terrible at relaxing and very rarely take a minute for myself - But this is most definitely something I am working on. I need to make self-care much more of a priority, by creating time out of my schedule to unwind.

On the odd occasion that I do take time out, I like to spend it a herbal tea, magazine and a luxurious item in hand to pamper my hair or skin by day. Or by night I love nothing more than, mixing up a cocktail snuggling down with a movie whilst painting my nails.

I personally love simple pleasures and especially ones that I can enjoy from the comfort of my own home. Which I probably why I love working with Living Sea Therapy so much. It seems the only produce products that evoke a sense of calm and even better rejuvenation.

Last weekend I got the chance to dog sit for my mom and if it wasn't enough of a treat to get to spend some quality time with her Jackapoo Arthur, I got to actually have a bath. Now, this isn't because I've let my personal hygiene slip but in fact, I currently don't have a bathtub and for someone who loves a bath after a long day at work; it's quite devastating.

Making sure I took full advantage of the opportunity to soak in the tub. I poured my Living Sea Therapy Bath Salts and Bath Soak in, lay back and relaxed and all the while thinking to myself how wonderful it is that something so simple as a bath can bring so much joy. It also made me realise that where ever we finally end up, we need to have a grand bath tube I can blissfully soak in.

As a Living Sea Therapy ambassador, I get to test out all their full range, which as you can imagine is quite lovely so if you need any advice on which products to order, I am your woman.

Here are my top 3 must have Living Sea Therapy products which will send you into a wonderfully serene environment.

Bath Salts Energise

I am sure I'm not the only one, who gets into the gym and hasn't a clue what to do. Some days I smash my workouts and work my way around the gym with ease. But then there are those days where I haven't a clue where to start and when I do get going I just seem to do the same old thing and frankly, it get's a little boring.

In all honesty, I think that's why most people avoid the gym because they get bored doing the same routine. I will hold my hands up and say that from time to time I am one of these people and as much as I love keeping fit, I need variety to keep my mind happy.
Luckily for me, I have a friend on a fitness mission for her looming holiday, so taking full advance of her regular gym visits I tagged along to give her workout a go.

Using predominantly free weights and machines I embarked on a whole new type of work out (for me anyway). Working my upper body and legs we worked in pyramid sets, increasing out weights each time. Admittedly I am not living heavyweights but they are weights all the same and extremely effective when done in sets.

- All exercises were completed in 3 sets

- Any weighted exercises were done is sets of 12, 10, 8

- With the weight increasing every time

- The only exception was the abdominal exercise. This I aimed for 25 in 3 hits ... and it was HARD!

If a mug of hot chocolate wasn't good enough, I only went and added Aluna Coconut Rum and took it to a whole new level, a very decadent grown up level. This beverage is perfect for those cosy get togethers with friends over Christmas or a little afternoon treat whilst watching your favourite Christmas film. Not only is this hot chocolate completely delicious but it is also vegan and whether you're vegan or not I am sure you will love it! If you're a chocolate and coconut fan you're going to want to give this recipe a go.

2 Heaped Teaspoons of Organic Cacao Powder - I used the MyProtein one

2 Heaped Teaspoons of Organic Coconut Sugar - I used the MyProtein one

25ml Shot of Aluna Coconut Rum

3/4 Mug of Organic Coconut Milk (or the milk of your choice)

1 Teaspoon of Clarks Carob Syrup

The hot chocolate is best heated on the hob.

Blend a little of the coconut milk with the cacao powder and create a nice thick paste. Then gradually add the rest of the milk and sugar, stir and gradually warm.

Add the shot of Aluna Coconut to the mix and the carob syrup.

Stir and gently bring to the boil. As soon as it reaches the boil, remove from the heat.

Add to the mug of your choice and enjoy!

I hope you all enjoy this recipe, please let me know what you think!

Corinne x Living Sea Therapy

Living Sea Therapy are the latest brand to join my list of wonderful sponsors and supporters and I couldn't be happier to welcome them to the family.

As you all know I have been working as professional free surfer some many years now and have an uncontrollable love for the ocean, beaches, especially the Cornish Coastline and I am lucky enough to call Cornwall my home. Even after the vast travelling I have done, I still love coming back to the rugged coast, wild seas and breath taking beaches. The cold Atlantic waters make my soul content, my skin feeling alive and my body healthy, which is why I collaborating with Living Sea Therapy makes me so happy! Living Sea Therapy too believe in the heeling powers of the sea and using sustainably sourced ingredients from the Lizard Peninsula.

Here is a little more about this unique brand:

Living Sea Therapy is a window on Cornwall's unique geological past. It encapsulates Cornwall's underwater voyage, involving ancient rock dramas and mysterious kelp forests, that yield our cobalt waters and unique sea minerals. Working with our sister businesses, Cornish Sea Salt Co. and Cornish Seaweed Co. as well as a team of marine biologists, environmentalists and leading therapists, we have developed our Living Sea Therapy® range. Using sustainable hand harvesting and exclusive processes based on natural science we have created our wonder ingredient, Living Sea Complex® which combines three vital elements to harness the restorative powers of the sea especially for you and your skin.

The story starts deep beneath the crashing waves where rich salt and sea minerals, unique to the cobalt waters around the Lizard Peninsula, are gathered by The Cornish Sea Salt Co. We hand-harvest a few metres from our rugged shoreline using a zero-impact, 3,000-year-old artisan process and innovative technology. As well as hand-harvesting delicate sea salt flakes coated in beneficial minerals, we also harvest a mineral-rich elixir known as Cornish Sea Salt Minerals, which all goes into our marine cocktail to provide a treasure trove of benefits to revitalise your skin.

The story continues as we drift through ancient kelp forests along the rocky shoreline to marvel at tough, primordial plants which thrive in one of the harshest environments on the planet. We’ve extracted the very essence from three of the hardiest, most nutrient-rich species to bring a cornucopia of natural vitamins, minerals and goodness direct to your skin. Your conscience will benefit too, as the sustainable diving and foraging techniques used by our sister brand, The Cornish Seaweed Co, are setting the course for the way all seaweed is harvested in the UK.

Living Sea Therapy embodies everything that I believe in and are very much keeping my cold water mermaid dream alive.
I will be bringing you month Living Sea Therapy dedicated blogs, with my hints and tips on how and where to use their products, as well as exciting give aways, competitions and event collaborations.

Stay tuned for more LST wonderfulness!

Here are my top 3 picks from the Living Sea Therapy collection.

Northcore Surfshields Surfer Ear Plugs

A couple of months I got sent some ear plugs by my sponsor Northcore, with the request that I give them a little test run and share my feedback. It is now 2 months on and I have been wearing the Northcore Surfshields Surfers Ear Plugs during nearly all of my surfs and here's what I found.

Comfy Fit

Unlike some ear plugs I have tried, they didn't feel uncomfortable when in. They slotted around my ear piercing with ease.

Didn't fall out

In all honesty I thought they would fall out straight away. I kept waiting for the cord to get caught in my hair and pull the plugs out, but they didn't. They stayed in during every surf I had.

Block water not sound

These ear plugs kept the water out but still allowed me to hear everything that was going on around me.

I can't recommend these ear plugs enough, they are reasonably priced, good quality and they actually work. I have tried and tested them and now don't ever surf without them. If you're a surfer and you spend a lot of time in the water then you NEED to wear ear plugs and if my advice doesn't convince you, just google Surfers Ear and then you'll soon see why it's important to protect your ears!

With my life changing a lot this year and my work pattern shifting slightly I felt now more than ever the need to take a holiday. My mind and body craved a break away from routine. I wanted to take a SLOW HOLIDAY. Wake up naturally without the aid of an alarm, drink coffee, wander on the beach, cruise along waves, not worrying if I would get a good video clip and not forgetting drink beers by sunset. I didn't want to check my emails, worry about having to shoot a whole suitcase worth of product or event get the best surf shots. I just wanted to unwind and slow things down a little.

Which is exactly what Ben and I did, for 10 days in the Algarve region of Portugal.

This wasn't either of our first times to this part of Europe, I have in fact been four times previous to this one. Not much changes from year to year, which I love, it just got a lot busier but that's to be expected, it's a beautiful part of the world.

We started our holiday in Carvoeiro were we spent 3 days celebrating my father in laws 60th birthday. We hired a villa from Air BnB, stocked it with Portuguese Rose, Beer and Aluna Rum and kicked back and enjoyed the festivities.

After three days of heavily indulging we were ready to set off on our next adventure. Next stop Sagres. This sleepy surf town moves at a slow pace but don't be fooled by it's laid back atmopshere Sagres plays host to a pretty heavy beach break on it's day; Tonel. This wave actually only really broke once on our trip, due to the swell direction but I kinda liked that because it meant we got to explore a lot more of the coast rather than just wandering down to Tonel to surf.

We spent a fair few days surfing Corderama, which is just a short drive up the coast. There's something about this place that I found really special. It's surrounded by dramatic cliffs, some of which make you feel like you've just landed on mars with their parched and dusty landscape and other ways you look, make feel as though you could of sitting up looking at the Cornish coastline.
Corderama beach is vast and when the swell rolls in you have breaks up and down the coast. It broke better on a mid to high tide but you could still surf through low but it's wasn't that great.
I guess the only down side to this wave were the amount of surf schools to travelled to this beach. At some points the entire white water line up was littered with learner surfers, but this wasn't all bad as the very rarely got in your way if you were surfing out back. With a lovely bar on the beach it made the perfect spot to enjoy a sunset beer after surfing all day.

Another spot we surfed a few times is very much off the beaten track, Ponta Ruiva Sagres is just outside Sagres. This place has some of the funnest waves I have surfed in a long time with essentially three peaks. A left hand point to the left of the beach, a right point you've guessed it to the right and a run beach break in the middle. Considering how much of a mission it is to get to this place there were a fair few people on the beach when we first went. It's a popular spot with travellers and their camper vans and I couldn't help thinking when we walked past them early in the morning what a place this would be to wake up and have breakfast. It's honestly such a beautiful spot, I could of easily spent every day there.

With a break in decent surf it gave us a chance to head to Lagos for an afternoon of wandering around the city. We ate ice cream, took in the sights and sipped beers in the restaurants dotted along the cobbled streets. I am sure Lagos by night is very different but I enjoyed seeing it in the day.

10 days didn't seem long enough, we wanted enjoyed our stay in Portugal so much, we just didn't want to leave but like all good things they must come to and end, so now I am writing this blog from my sofa in Cornwall. I have such fond memories of this trip and no doubt will be heading back to Portugal in the near future.

If my short snapshot into this beautiful corner of Portugal has inspired you to take a trip, then check out my 7 tips surfing in the Algarve.

Tips For Surfing & Exploring In Portugal

- Get a car
We stayed in Sagres and due to swell direction the beaches around Sagres only worked on the last day of our trip, meaning we travelling up the coast for waves. Which didn't bother me but it made me realise how stuck you would be without any of your own personal transport.

- Prepare to go off road
The best surf breaks aren't aways the ones you can walk to from you apartment of villa, sometimes you just have to drive down a dirt track and hike a little to get perfect point breaks and beach breaks.

- Go where the locals go
They know their coffee, Tosta Mistas (Ham & Cheese Toasted Sandwich), Pastel De Nata (the most heavinly custard tart you will ever eat) and their fish and meat. SO if you see a restaurant packed with locals, more likely than not it's going to delicious and reasonably priced!

- Don't always believe trip advisor
Don't get me wrong I love trip advisor but sometimes the reviews can just confuse you and cloud your own judgement. If a place has more good reviews than not, don't be put off the one review that said the waiter was grumpy or they forgot a meal. Try it for yourself and make your own judgement.

- Take a key lock or key pouch
A saw a lot of people leaving bags on the beaches and in all honestly we were both included in this. At one point I think we left car keys, a SLR Camera, phones, wallet, GoPro and generally anything we had with us on the beach whilst we surfed and NOT ONE thing was taken. BUT if I had been more organised and less frantic whilst packing we would of taken my key lock for the car.

- The Sea IS warmer than the UK
Before I left for Portugal I was surfing in my 4:3 wetsuit and when I surfed in Portugal I surfed in my 2mm C-Skins Solace Boy Leg (Short Leg) wetsuit. I wore my 3:2 once and was far too hot. My husband surfed in a old summer suit he had cut the arms of to make a short arm wetsuit and he was cooking during some surfs. The water is at it's warmest during September / October and after an unusually hot spell of weather I think the water temperature must of been up a degree or two.

- Take a camera / phone / GoPro
Whatever you use to capture photos be sure you pack it for your trip to Portugal, this place is BEAUTIFUL. Honestly the beaches are stunning, in a raw rugged and untouched way. I could not stop taking photos, everywhere I looked I saw something worth capturing.

When I was younger I never questioned where the clothes I wear cam from, I didn't acknowledge that they may have even had a story. As I've grown older I have started to make conscious choices about where my food I consume comes from, what products I put on my skin and I guess with these choices I have become even more aware of the clothing I am wearing. I am not going to sit her and say that everything I wear is ethically sourced or eco, because I wouldn't be honest to myself, BUT I am more aware than I have ever been of the importance of shopping ethically. Which I why I love working with Azura Bay.

If someone had said you'd be working with a lingerie store that only stocks ethically sourced lingerie that I would LOVE to wear I wouldn't of believed them. I think in my head I would of pictured some kind of hand dyed, unflattering styled lingerie but this clearly is not the case. Azura Bay sell lingerie that women want to buy, lingerie that will make you feel like a complete goddess in and I know I we should all feel amazing without having to buy something, but sometimes it's nice to treat yourself to yourself and if your treat hasn't come at a cost then even better.

Here is the second instalment of my collaboration with Azura Bay. I have linked all the garments under the images, allowing you to shop the products.
